The first integrated circuit

The first integrated circuit

In 1959, Jack Kilby presented the world's first integrated circuit of five elements, located on a germanium plate 1 cm in length. The five elements are interconnected with miniature thin wires. Robert Noyce invented a much simpler way of connecting elements on the chip and Kilby's method turns out to be inadequate from a technological point of view, and after a while his ICs have been replaced by those of Robert Noyes.
